2015 MEDIA RELEASE:
June 15, 2015 – Scattered Seeds celebrates it’s 20th annual craft market in 2015.
In the mid 1980’s a group of stay-at-home moms held a craft sale in Deb Schwartz’s living room. Over the next few years as many as 600 customers would traipse through the house at each sale. By 1995 the traffic was too heavy and the interest too keen to be confined to a private home. So Scattered Seeds was born and moved to Transcona Country Club with 68 crafters. Subsequently Scattered Seeds relocated to Assiniboia Downs. Its current home is at Red River Exhibition Park where it now hosts over 150 juried crafters and artists and attracts 12000 eager visitors over three days. Scattered Seeds is organized by the mother-daughter team of Deb Schwartz and Megan Neumann.
Their creative endeavor has become a real Winnipeg tradition and for many it marks the beginning of the Christmas season for both out-of-towners and Winnipegers. The 2015 exhibit, from October 16 – 18, will mark the 20th anniversary of Scattered Seeds. A party featuring the music of Jon Bryant is planned for Saturday evening with a limited number of $15.00 tickets being sold for this special event. General admission to the craft sale is only $7.00 and allows one to come and go for the entire weekend.
This is a special year for us as it’s our 20th Anniversary!
- Our primary goal is to host a great event that we in Winnipeg can be proud of. Around here we like to say that Scattered Seeds is ‘Celebrating 20 years of Creativity’ and we couldn’t be more pumped! Not only do we have fantastic “Makers” selling their creations but we also have great musical entertainment. It’s going to be a party!
- Saturday evening from 6pm – 9pm we will be hosting an Anniversary Celebration featuring recording artist Jon Bryant, special offers from our talented Makers, and a wine & beer bar. The limited number of tickets insures that there are no crowds for this evening. Tickets are $15 in advance and sold on our website. (It would be a great date night… just saying)
- Scattered Seeds is owned and operated by mother/daughter team of Deb Schwartz & Megan Neumann. Three years ago my former business partners retired and my daughter, Megan Neumann, who was 23 year old at the time, expressed an interest to jump in. It is it a dream come true that I am now working with my daughter, but also I’m excited at the thought of passing the baton to the next generation through her involvement.
- We believe in giving back and are honoured to be in a place to do that. We have happily supported many charities over the years but this year we have decided to become more intentional about this and the legacy we want to leave through our business. To that end we now have a secondary goal which is Empowering Women. Our attendees can feel good that a portion of their ticket, the profit from specialty coffee, or a purchase made from one of our sponsored charities will go directly to empower women who are making a difference in their world and the world around them.
